Within the framework of the contribution of Catalonia to intellectual development in our knowledge and understanding of Nature, and more particularly the relationship between humans and natural systems and the territory, stands the genius and personality of Professor Ramon Margalef i López (Barcelona 1919-2004), as a figure of the highest international level, who created a unique school of thought which, contributing to the development of modern ecology, has led to the interpretation of complex natural systems in terms of information theory.
On this basis, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia has created the Ramon Margalef Prize of Ecology and Environmental Sciences. This prestigious annual prize worth 100.000 euros (one hundred thousand euros), aims at recognizing persons from different parts of the world distinguished for excellence in ecology or other environmental sciences.
Please find herewith the terms of reference of the Prize and the instructions to submit a candidature, plus the form to be filled in and presented by a letter of well reasoned justification signed by the presenter. Candidacies should be submitted by 30 May 2006.
