Membership categories:

Membership in SIL shall consist of persons who are actively interested in the advancement of limnology and its applications. Membership categories consist of:

1. Regular Member

From Developing Countries at 65 SFr or equivalent [current rates] per annum

From Developed Countries at 85 SFr or equivalent [current rates] per annum

2. Student Member (50% reduction of regular member fees for a maximum of three years)

3. Family Member (32.5 SFr or equivalent per annum); If one person of a marriage is a member at the full rate, the spouse may be a member at half membership fee. The second member has full privileges, but will not receive publications)

4. Associate Member (institutional libraries, organizations; from Developing Countries 130 SFr or equivalent [current rates] per annum and from Developed Countries 200 SFr or equivalant [current rates] per annum)

5. Affiliate Member National or regional societies with an observer status in SIL and who pay 15% of the annual institutional fee (20 SFr per annum). Affiliate members receive all privileges of membership but not scientific publications

6. Life Member Individuals who make major financial contributions to SIL. The minimum contribution for this category of membership consists of 70 times the prevailing dues. These contributions will be placed in a special endowment fund intended to help young limnologists attend congresses and other meetings sponsored by SIL.

Honorary and Emeritus membership categories are also available to longterm members of SIL; please contact the SIL Administrative Assistant for greater details.

Publications:

The publications of SIL are essentially triennial. The Proceedings (Verhandlungen) consist of massive volumes (ca. 4000 pages) of scientific papers delivered at the triennial congresses of SIL. Irregular Communications (Mitteilungen) consist of critical analyses of methods and other topical subjects and are published as finances of SIL permit. Payment of annual membership dues is required whether journals are received in one particular year or not. Proceedings and Communications are issued to all members who are in good standing for the entire triennium during which the publications were produced. Back issues of SIL publications are available for purchase; contact the General Secretary for details.

Proceedings are available in printed form or on CD-ROM.

In addition, individual members of SIL can obtain the Archiv für Hydrobiologie publication series, an official organ of the Association, at a 25% price reduction through the General Secretary.

Payments:

Exchange rates are established each November 1st for the following calendar year. Payments may be made to the General Secretary-Treasurer or in certain countries to cooperating National Representatives (current rates as issued with each Annual Circular in January).
